Acne Medicine: Diagnosing Acne Inversa
Acne Inversa, also known as Hidradenitis Suppurativa, is an ailment that affects certain areas on the body where there is constant contact with other skin. It is not contagious and typically begins as a firm, boil-like lesion. Acne Inversa can be painful and lies deep beneath the skin's surface and may result in scarring.
In extreme cases of Acne Inversa, the abscess may be very large and very painful. In some instances, the persistence of Acne Inversa may be prolonged for years with only occasional periods of inflammation but, if left untreated, this may result in wounds that will not heal. Among the causes of Acne Inversa are stress, humidity and hormones. In the case of persistent Acne Inversa, the lesions may become connected beneath the skin and quite often cannot heal properly.
The symptoms of Acne Inversa are much more than just physical. In fact, many sufferers also battle with depression and embarrassment. Feelings of fever and fatigue often arise in extreme cases and may prevent individuals from performing everyday, common tasks.
Unfortunately for many, Acne Inversa often goes undiagnosed due to the embarrassment of seeing a doctor, a physician's inability to recognize the ailment and treatments that simply do not work. To date, there is no known cure for Acne Inversa, nor is there a consistent treatment that is known to work regularly. What works for one patient may not work for another, which is something that physicians who recognize the ailment struggle with in determining a treatment. In many cases, surgical removal is an option but the recurrence of Acne Inversa will still be possible.
If an individual suspects that he/she may have developed Acne Inversa, a physician should be consulted. During the initial interview, patients should attempt to learn whether or not the physician is familiar with this disorder and how to approach treatment. Prior to agreeing to any remedy, patients should speak with their physician about possible side effects or cautionary notices regarding any medication. If a prescription is given, patients must inform their doctor about any medications, either prescribed or over the counter, that he/she is currently taking. This will help to prevent any problems with various medications interacting with one another in a negative way.
